Academy of Social & Sensory Development

We are a small and highly focused program that provides a sensory pro-active environment where children can develop and grow their social capabilities, and have opportunities to practice effective interaction skills. We have found our methods to be very successful for children who do not learn social skills in the traditional manner. Our multi-sensory approach is beneficial to children who have been diagnosed with PDD, Autism, Aspergers, Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, ADD/ADHD, and for that child who just struggles to pick up these skills by themselves.

The Academy is located in McKinney Texas, and focuses on developing social skills for children 6 through 16 years. Classes are available Monday through Thursday with a maximum of 6 children in each class. In addition, for children who have already transitioned to a school setting, we provide a Saturday Social Skills club.

At the Academy

Social and sensory awareness is our #1 goal, not academics. By using a pro-active approach we can increase success and build confidence. We want to give children the skills and tools they can use rather than just providing a crutch.  Our first objective is to establish behavioral control, and develop mutual respect with the child. By providing a positive environment with many opportunities for successful interactions we will reduce frustration levels and negative behaviors.

Establishing group and self awareness is very important to your child’s success, and each child will have individual and specific goals which are under constant review. Our program will not be static but grow and evolve to suit the needs of each child.

We will schedule regular conference times for each parent to review and plan ahead. We see the parent/therapist role as totally collaborative and critical to you child’s success. We are happy to consult with other therapists that your child currently works with to develop an integrated learning experience for your child. Several of our parents report that with our support and encouragement, they feel empowered to help their child succeed.
